Skinfolk: The Society of Nonconformists
Artist/writer Sharyll Burroughs presents the second of twelve monthly gatherings at ADX: Alice Coltrane — Sonic Voyager.
A blank screen. A room of human beings. A poem built in real time.
“BECOMING” a communal poem is inspired by Coltrane’s transformation — musician, wife, mother, collapse, spiritual teacher. This is not a workshop. THIS IS LIVE COMPOSITION.
This public study — portions of Burroughs’s Skinfolk written in public — centers radical Black nonconformists not as icons, but as practitioners of refusal, illuminating what it truly means to be human. “Becoming” will appear in the book.
The series is for artists, experimental musicians, spiritual seekers, scholars, and anyone curious about the lessons of refusal and radical creativity.
